Frequently Asked Questions - Midifiles
|
|
||||
|
1.) Q: Can I use the Newtronic midifiles on my computer?
|
A: All midifiles are supplied on standard 3.5" double density floppy disks (MS-DOS format) which can be read by all PC and ATARI computers. Newer MACs are able to read these disks straight away, however users with older MACs must use Apple File Exchange to import the data on the disk. AMIGA users should use X-DOS to import the data. Please ensure that you select the computer type matching your machine on the order form in the on-line shop. |

2.) Q: Do I need any special software to work with the Newtronic midifiles?
|
A: Naturally it makes sense to use a software sequencer to be able to get the most out of the data. You are then able to see what your doing and to cut, copy & paste the data as you like. Some hardware sequencers are becoming better now and can be used very efficiently for working with midifile data (e.g. Yamaha QY700). Some internal sequencers in keyboards can also load midifile data. However, please be aware that we organise the data in file directories for better overview and most keyboards are only able to recognise data in the root directory. Therefore it is required to prepare the data in directories on separate disks on a computer prior to loading them into the keyboard. |

| 3.) Q: How do I load the Newtronic midifiles into my sequencer? | A: You must use the Load Midifile option in your sequencer. Some sequencers (Cakewalk) will list all registered files automatically. However, in Cubase you must use the "Import Midifile" option in the File menu. In Logic you must select "Open" in the file menu and select "Midifile" as the file type in the dialogue box! Once the data is loaded you can save it in the sequencers specific file type. | ||||
| 4.) Q: How will the midifiles sound on my equipment? | A: All midifiles are programmed to work on GM, GS and XG compatible equipment, but any other midi device in your setup can be addressed. You can really customise the sound to your own preferences. Sometimes it may be required to tweak a few settings in the setup bar (e.g. effect amounts) to adapt them properly to your sound card or sound module. | ||||
| 5.) Q: Are there any audio samples on the Newtronic midifile products? | A: No. Thats why they
are midifile products. The idea is to give you all the freedom to make
the data part of your own distinct sound. Thats why you can easily
change the sounds using program change messages or even sampled sounds
in your sampler. The emphasis on all Newtronic midifile is their high
quality musical content.
A sampled sound can only sound good if driven by the right musical ideas. Thats what our midifile products are about. If you are only interested in sampled loops for music production have a look in our sampling department with lots of interesting audio CDs, Akai, EMU and .WAV CD-ROMs. |

| 6.) Q: Can I release my own productions using the Newtronic midifile products? | A: Yes, of course. The idea of our midifile products is to inspire you and create better tracks. They are tool disks to be used! The data is licensed to you and may be used for commercial or non-commercial purposes within musical compositions. Please see the licence agreement for further details. You do not have to acknowledge that have employed Newtronic midifiles in your productions, but we are very happy about any credits. | ||||
